[LMD is rewarded] Marine Lanet’s poster wins award at WCRP 2023 conference
Marine Lanet, a PhD student in the EMC3 team supervised by Laurent Li and Hervé Le Treut, took part last October in the Open Science Conference (OSC) organized by the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) in Kigali, Rwanda.
Her poster entitled “Climate dryness as a driver for wildfire occurence in Southwest France” was awarded a prize.
Marine’s work focuses on the links between drought and wildfires in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, and the evolution of their frequency and intensity in the context of climate change. Marine uses a variety of data: satellite images to derives the main characteristics of fires, various reanalyses to calculate meteorological and soil moisture indices, and climate model simulations from the CMIP6 exercise to study past and future drought and fire risk statistics.
