[LMD recruits] Stella Bourdin, new Assistant Professor at École Polytechnique and expert on extreme events

The LMD is delighted to welcome Stella Bourdin, who officially joined on January 1st following her recruitment as an Assistant Professor at École Polytechnique last spring. Stella obtained this position brilliantly, ranking ahead of a group of highly qualified academic colleagues. At the LMD, she will study the impact of extreme weather events on energy systems in the context of climate change, and will teach environmental sciences at École Polytechnique.

Stella is a climatologist specializing in extreme events, and also an energy engineer. After graduating as an engineer from École Centrale Paris, she pursued a PhD at Université Paris-Saclay within the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement (LSCE-IPSL). Her doctoral research focused on the detection and assessment of tropical cyclones in high-resolution climate simulations developed at IPSL. She then carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, where she studied the climatology of post-tropical cyclones reaching Europe and their associated risks.
