[LMD publishes] Alban Planchat defended his thesis in the OCI team

Alban Planchat defended his thesis on December 8, 2023 at ENS. His work focuses on ocean alkalinity, its representation and distribution factor in the deep ocean. Ocean alkalinity (Alk) is essential for the uptake of atmospheric carbon and provides a buffer against acidification. However, this alkalinity and the calcium carbonate (CaCO3) cycle have often been neglected in predictions of ocean carbon uptake and potential impacts on ecosystems. This thesis addresses the lack of consideration given to Alk and the CaCO3 cycle in Earth System Models (ESM) and explores the implications for the carbon cycle in a pre-industrial ocean as well as in climate change scenarios.
